There’s something especially sweet about photographing a family as they settle into life with a new baby — and getting to document a brand-new big brother makes it even better.

This baby boy joined me at my Doylestown studio with his parents and big brother for a newborn session focused on both the tiny details of this stage and their new family of four.

A Newborn Session for the Whole Family

While the newest family member may be the reason for the session, newborn photos aren’t only about baby. I always want to make room for the relationships surrounding them, too — parents soaking in those first weeks and older siblings figuring out their brand-new role.

And sometimes the sweetest photographs are the simplest ones: a big brother holding his baby brother in his lap and leaning down to give him a kiss.

We also photographed baby with Mom and made sure to create plenty of images of the whole family together. These are the photographs that show not only how tiny a newborn once was, but what the entire family looked and felt like during those first weeks together.

One of the things I love about photographing newborn sessions in my Doylestown studio is that we can create a mix of simple family portraits and more styled newborn images all in one session.

For this little guy, we kept much of the session soft and neutral, then incorporated a few subtle personal touches — including an especially sweet baseball setup.

Alongside those more personalized images, I always love creating simple portraits that keep all of the attention on baby. A neutral wrap, soft textures and tiny details make photographs that will still feel timeless years from now.

The Tiny Details That Change So Quickly

Newborns change incredibly fast in those first weeks. The little toes, round cheeks, sleepy expressions — and even the occasional wide-awake stare — are such a small window of time.

That’s why I like a newborn gallery to have some variety. Not every photograph needs an elaborate setup. Sometimes a simple portrait of your baby looking straight back at the camera becomes one of the images you love most.

If you’re expecting and looking for a Doylestown PA newborn photographer, my studio newborn sessions are designed to document your baby while also creating photographs of your growing family together.
