Extended Family Photos | Harleysville PA Extended Family Photographer

Getting the whole family together gets harder as families grow. Adult kids have their own schedules, grandkids have their own schedules (and opinions), and suddenly having everyone in the same place at the same time feels like an accomplishment all by itself.

Which is exactly why extended family photos are worth doing.

This summer extended family session in Harleysville brought together grandparents, their two adult children, and all of their young grandchildren. We started with the whole crew together, then broke things down into smaller groups throughout the session.

A Harleysville PA Extended Family Photographer for the Whole Crew

One of the things I love about extended family sessions is that the big group photo is really only the beginning.

Yes, we'll absolutely get the photo of everyone together — the one that usually ends up framed in grandparents' houses. But we'll also make time for each individual family, grandparents with their grandchildren, siblings, cousins, and all the smaller combinations that matter.

And once we've gotten those must-have photos? The kids can move.

Some of my favorite images from this session happened when everyone stopped worrying about the camera. There was running through the grass, flower picking, twirling, being tossed in the air and plenty of playing between cousins.

Those are the photos that make a gallery feel like your family instead of simply a record of who was there.

Extended Family Photos Don't Have to Feel Formal

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about extended family photography is that adding more people automatically means the session needs to feel more posed.

It doesn't.

With a larger group, I provide a little more direction so we can efficiently get the photographs that include everyone. From there, we can loosen things up.

The goal isn't to get a dozen people to behave perfectly for an entire session. It's to get the important photographs while also leaving room for the personalities and relationships that make your family yours.

Years from now, you'll have the photograph of everyone together.

But you'll also have Grandpa's smile. Your kids running toward their uncle. A little hand holding a flower. Grandma surrounded by the people who came after her.

And those might end up meaning even more.

Looking for a Harleysville PA Extended Family Photographer?

If you've been waiting for the perfect time to schedule extended family photos, you don't need a milestone or special occasion as an excuse.

Getting everyone together is the occasion.

Whether your family is local to Harleysville or you're coordinating a session while relatives are visiting from out of town, we'll make sure you get the big group photo for the wall — and plenty of the fun, connected moments you'll want to remember, too.
