Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most precious moments, and a newborn photography session is a beautiful way to capture those fleeting early days. Whether you're booking a Petite Newborn Session focused solely on your baby or a Classic Newborn Session that includes family and sibling portraits, knowing what to expect will help you feel prepared and relaxed for the experience.
1. When to Schedule Your Session
The best time for newborn photos is within the first month after birth, ideally between 2-4 weeks old. At this stage, babies are still sleepy and naturally curl into those adorable, womb-like poses. However, if your baby is a little older, don’t worry! We can still create beautiful images that highlight your baby’s sweetness.
2. Session Location: A Cozy Studio Setting
Newborn sessions take place in my Doylestown photography studio, where everything is set up to keep your baby safe and comfortable. The studio is kept warm to help your little one stay cozy and sleepy, and I have a carefully curated collection of wraps, blankets, and props for a soft, timeless aesthetic.
3. What Happens During a Newborn Photography Session?
Your session will be a relaxed experience, allowing plenty of time for soothing, feeding, and gentle posing. Depending on the type of session you choose, here’s what you can expect:
Petite Newborn Session (90 minutes)
Designed exclusively for baby-only portraits.
Features two wrapped poses for a classic and peaceful look.
Includes an online gallery with 20 high-resolution images for you to select.
Signature Newborn Session (Up to 3 hours)
Includes family and sibling portraits before focusing on baby.
Offers 3-5 styled setups, including wrapped and posed images.
Perfect for capturing a mix of individual and family moments in a single session.
4. Preparing Your Baby for the Session
Feed baby right before arriving and as needed during our session to help them feel full and content.
Dress baby in something easy to remove to avoid marks on their skin or disturbing them when transitioning into wraps.
5. What Parents & Siblings Should Wear
For family portraits, I recommend soft, neutral tones that complement the delicate nature of newborn photos. Light fabrics and simple, timeless clothing work best. Avoid bold patterns or bright colors that could distract from your baby. Siblings are welcome to join for the Classic Newborn Session, and I suggest keeping their outfits simple and comfortable.
6. How to Make the Most of Your Session
Relax! Newborn sessions are slow-paced and designed with flexibility in mind.
Bring essentials like extra diapers, a pacifier, and a swaddle for added comfort.
Trust the process—I’ll gently guide your baby into poses that highlight their tiny features and natural beauty.

Final Thoughts
Your newborn’s first days will pass in the blink of an eye, but with a professional photography session, you’ll have stunning images to treasure forever. Whether you choose a Simply Newborn or Signature Newborn Session, my goal is to create a calm, comfortable experience that results in images you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
