Your in-home newborn session is about capturing real life—those quiet, fleeting first days with your baby in the space where your story is unfolding. And when it comes to choosing what to wear for your in-home session, my best advice? Keep it simple.

Planning Your In-home Newborn Session
You don’t need to match the nursery. Neutrals always win. Soft, muted tones like ivory, gray, taupe, pale blue, and blush look beautiful against the cozy textures of the home. Avoid bright colors, bold logos, and busy patterns that might distract from your baby (who is, after all, the star of the show).
Choose comfort over “fancy.” Newborn sessions often involve a lot of sitting, cuddling, feeding, and swaying. Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident. A soft dress or a cozy sweater with jeans can be just the thing. Partners can opt for henleys, button-downs, or neutral tees.
For a baby, snug is best. Skip the oversized outfits or stiff “going home” ensembles. The camera loves simple, well-fitting clothes. A snug onesie, a wrap, or just a diaper and a swaddle are perfect. Think textures over patterns—knit, ribbed, gauzy fabrics that photograph beautifully.
Barefoot is beautiful. This in-home newborn session is about connection, not perfection. No need to stress about shoes—most of it will be shot on the bed, couch, or nursery floor.
Bonus tip: Light matters. I’ll help you pick the best rooms based on natural light, and I’ll gently guide you so you don’t have to think about posing. Your job? Just love on your baby.
