You’ve scheduled your newborn session—congratulations! Now comes the fun part: deciding what to wear. As a newborn photographer in Doylestown, I’ve helped hundreds of families prepare for these tender early moments, and I know just how much styling can impact the look and feel of your final gallery.

Here are some timeless tips to help you feel confident and camera-ready.
1. Keep It Simple and Soft
Neutral tones like ivory, cream, beige, soft grey, or muted pastels will always photograph beautifully. These tones highlight your baby’s delicate skin and help keep the focus on connection. Busy patterns, logos, or bright colors can be distracting—less is truly more.
2. Choose Comfort Over Fashion Trends
This session is about ease. Flowy dresses for moms and soft knits or linen shirts for dads work beautifully and feel comfortable while holding and snuggling your newborn. If you're still healing, prioritize fabrics that move with you and make you feel good.
3. Think About Texture, Not Flash
Soft knits, lace details, waffle weave blankets—these textures add visual interest without overpowering the softness of a newborn session. Think cozy and inviting.
4. Coordinate Without Matching
You don’t need to all wear the same color! Instead, select a neutral palette (like cream, soft grey, and tan) and mix textures and tones within that range. This creates a cohesive and elevated look.
5. Don’t Forget the Details
Hands will be in many of your photos. Trim nails and remove any loose or chipped polish. For dads or partners, simple grooming goes a long way. For babies—no need for shoes or bows unless you really love them!
If you’re ever unsure, I offer guidance and examples as part of every session prep. Styling doesn’t have to be stressful—let’s keep the focus where it belongs: on your beautiful new baby.
